Niki Terpstra was put in the spotlight during his last Six Days of Rotterdam. Halfway through the evening he was surprised by a derny race (race with a motorized pacemaker) in which his cycling friends participated. Former cyclists Laurens ten Dam, Danny Stam, Iljo Keisse and Jens Mouris, for example, participated.
Terpstra watched visibly emotionally together with his family. Later in the evening he was put in the spotlight again. He was received in a beautiful honorary guard of all riders, family and friends on the track in Ahoy. Terpstra addressed the audience and together with his son and daughter he drove several laps of honor.
Life at the top level is always busy”
“It’s nice and special to say goodbye here. Very nice to feel all that support. Top sports life always brings pressure. Also towards the family. Now we’re going to make something beautiful of it, but with less tension,” said Terpstra know afterwards. The North Hollander said that he will certainly still cycle, but at a much lower level. He will also drive a number of gravel competitions next year.
