On Tuesday it was quite a shock for Beau van Erven Dorens: a climate activist jumped on his talk show table to glue himself to it. The presenter was visibly irritated about this: he called him unsympathetic and uncivilized. That angry reaction caused annoyance to activist viewers such as Katja Schuurman.

Beau gets criticized

RTL Breakfast news presenter Boyan Ephraim, Jan de Hoop’s successor, is also disappointed in the way Beau reacted. He thinks it is very good that the climate activist glued himself to the talk show table.

Boyan: “And then discuss whether this is rude… Wow… Maybe we should realize that the youngest generations will soon no longer have a life, because no one takes this seriously enough and really takes enough action.”

Catastrophic

The climate is really going in the wrong direction, Boyan says. “The latest UN climate report shows that we are not going to meet the Paris goals and that will be catastrophic for all of us. The next few years will be decisive.”

One Marloes then: “Maybe that’s because of the (sad) way in which? Aiming soup at a painting, throwing a cake in a face or gluing yourself to a table is not a solution and you will not understand what that is (unfortunately I don’t know what that is either).”

screaming loud

Boyan doesn’t know what a better alternative would be. “Neatly debating at a talk show table in the House of Representatives doesn’t help either, does it? Do you have a better alternative to secure our future?”

Marloes: “No, if only I had that. It is precisely the fact that we have to make a difference with so much that makes it so difficult. There is always a group that does not want to decide whether or not it all decides for itself ??‍♀️.”

Boyan: “Shouting out loud sometimes seems to help get the people who can make a difference move. Look at the protests surrounding the nitrogen discussion. I especially wonder how people will look at us in a hundred years if they have clearly done too little and have ruined it for the future.”

Mattie responds

Qmusic star Mattie Valk does not agree with Boyan. “It is of course not the case that we can be limitlessly indecent under the climate flag.”

Boyan said: “Under no flag, I think. I personally don’t think climbing on the table is indecent.”
