Beau van Erven Dorens announces his departure from TV in the weekly magazine Privé. He does not want to grow old on television and will complete everything neatly in the coming years. “I’ve been dealing with it for a year now.”
RTL 4 star Beau van Erven Dorens has made the decision: he is 52 years old and ready for a new challenge. The presenter is quitting television, he announces this week in a three-page interview with the weekly magazine Privately. The reason? “I slowly feel that in a while I will be ready for a completely different life.”
Beau quits TV
Oh god, is this another case of Martijn Krabbé? Does Beau also want to start playing records? “I want a life without television. What do I want to do? Don’t ask me, because I don’t owe you the answer. I really do not know. And that is what appeals to me so much. I like the adventure. I find the uncertainty exciting and see it as a challenge.”
Beau is serious. “The urge for something new is a strong one drive in me. And I accept the risk that I will fail once I take a new path. You know what I especially like triggers? I would like to do something that I don’t think I can do.”
Lots of flops
Twelve trades, thirteen accidents: according to Wilfred Genee, this summarizes Beau’s career. He’s had a lot of flops. “More of my programs have failed than have been successful,” the presenter admits.
That’s why Beau has done so many shows, he continues. “The fact that Linda de Mol has not made nearly as many programs as I have is mainly because her shows keep the Netherlands glued to the TV every time. She continues with the same program for years. I can’t say that about the programs I presented.”
For a year now
And now Beau is going to put an end to it. “I think I’ve been thinking about that for a year now, but I’m not ready to make the decision yet. Last year I gave myself another term of two or three years to stay in television. I adjusted that term without any reason.”
How long will he stay? “My feeling tells me that I will continue for another three or four years.”
Let’s see what he says next year.
