Beau van Erven Dorens helped a gentleman in the audience of his talk show with tissues. This man, dressed in a purple sweater, got emotional from a Christmas commercial.
Now that Sinterklaas has returned to his own country, the commercial breaks are immediately overflowing with Christmas commercials. Beau van Erven Dorens had two guests sitting at the table yesterday in his talk show to assess those commercials, including the famous opinion diva Angela de Jong. She is especially a fan of the new PLUS Christmas commercial (see below).
Cry for PLUS
After showing the PLUS commercial, Beau sees in the corner of his eye that a man in the audience has burst into tears. He immediately approaches the man with a box of tissues. “Are you alright? Yes?”
The man immediately grabs a tissue to wipe away all his tears. “It is really very beautiful. Awesome.”
Empathizing Beau: “I saw you go there. It’s just an advertisement.”
The man is emotional: “A wonderful advertisement. No, very nice. Really very nicely done.”
Beau: “I also really liked it. This is a good one, isn’t it?”
Family feeling
Why is the PLUS advertising so popular? Angela: “It is very social. Even if you haven’t personally experienced what it’s like with composite families, there is a family feeling in it and an adolescent who has trouble with a lot of things and that they are all having Christmas dinner together again. ”
Many people also like Albert Heijn’s advertising, although it is slightly less emotional. “Very honest: I don’t have much feeling about it,” says Angela.
“AH is the best!”
TV viewer Victor Hopman, known from Twitter, thinks that Albert Heijn has the best Christmas advertisement. “The clear winner this year. No emotional story, no cliché moments, but just a very nice angle that is very well worked out. The best of 2022 for me,” he tweeted.
PLUS is his number two. “PLUS has a reputation to uphold in terms of Christmas advertising, and again this year I was crying under the Christmas tree. It’s almost a Videoland series, so good.”
And on three? LIDL. “The second commercial this year where I had to wipe away a tear. Unexpectedly incredibly moving (although many people will think something of it again).”
Aldi’s ranks at four for him, Jumbo’s at five. His entire Twitter thread about the Christmas commercials can be found here.
