Beaches overwhelmed by heat wave
The beach team hands out stray bracelets on the beach of Ostend. In August, more than 200 children have been lost in this coastal city. Those are record numbers. Tourism Ostend is also surprised by this unprecedented bustle. It became almost unfeasible for the emergency services and rescuers at the sea to work really smoothly in the vicinity of the Casino Kursaal.

Then there is the spring tide that makes sure that everyone is almost on each other’s lips. The waterline is teeming with people looking for some refreshment. In between, of course, also the lifeguards who are responsible for safety.
Many beach lovers are not really familiar with the rapidly rising water at spring tides. Also on July 19 there was a similar surprise on the same beach when the water made the beach much smaller in the afternoon.
