Beach Volleyball World Cup: Müller/Tillmann’s dreams of gold burst

As of: 06/18/2022 9:11 p.m

The beach volleyball players Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann were eliminated in the semifinals of the World Cup in Rome. Sophie Bukovec and Brandie Wilkerson were too strong for Hamburg.

The duo from Eimsbütteler TV was beaten by the Canadians 1:2 (15:21, 21:15, 12:15) on Saturday evening. Müller and Tillmann, who sensationally made it into the semi-finals, are now fighting for bronze in the match for third place against Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré on Sunday. The Swiss combination had previously lost against the Brazilians Ana Patricia/Duda 0:2 (19:21, 13:21).

Newly formed ETV duo Lichtblick in Rome

In the Foro Italico, which was quite sparsely occupied on Saturday, the newly formed duo will then play for the second German women’s medal at a World Cup. In 2017, the Rio Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst won gold in Vienna. Müller and Tillmann have only been online for a year and a half. At the tournament in Rome, they are the only bright spot in an overall disappointing German team.

Hamburg men’s duo missed semi-finals

On Thursday, Karla Borger and Julia Sude (Düsseldorf), third at the European Championships, were eliminated in the round of 16. Sandra Ittlinger/Isabel Schneider (Berlin/Hamburg) and Chantal Laboureur/Sarah Schulz (Stuttgart/Düsseldorf) had not reached the round of 16.

Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler were the only German team to take part in the tournament in the Italian capital. Hamburg didn’t make it into the round of 16 either.
