Beach volleyball: Walkenhorst does without the Olympics

Beach volleyball Olympic champion Kira Walkenhorst is continuing her career but will not take part in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

As the 31-year-old announced on Instagram, she will “continue beach volleyball” play, however “focus on the national series and some international tournaments in the area (if I get admitted there)”.

She would have the 2024 Olympics “quite irritated”wrote the mother of triplets, but now her family is in the foreground, “which I just don’t want to put up with this effort of the international tournament calendar anymore”.

Walkenhorst, who won the Olympic Games with her former partner Laura Ludwig in 2016 and a year later the World Championship title, is looking forward to the new season, but “hugely”.

Walkenhorst announced that she would communicate the name of her new partner “in the next few days”. “I’m sure we can annoy one or the other favorite team in the national series.”
