The beach volleyball players Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler gambled away the chance of a home win at the Pro Tour tournament in Hamburg.
In the semifinals on Saturday evening at the Stadion am Rothenbaum, the duo lost 2-0 (16:21, 18:21) to Dutchmen Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen. In 2019, Wickler won World Championship silver with his former partner Julius Thole at the same place.
Even with the women, there will be nothing with a German victory. Karla Borger and Julia Sude (Düsseldorf) also lost in the round of four, against the US duo Kelly Cheng/Betsi Flint it was a 0:2 (17:21, 18:21) defeat. Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider (Berlin/Hamburg) lost in the quarter-finals.
Borger/Sude will play in the small final against Barbara/Carol from Brazil for third place on Sunday at 11:00 am. From 2:00 p.m. Ehlers/Wickler will again face a duo from the Netherlands: It’s against Stefan Boermans/Matthew Immers.
