Knokke-Heist takes the crown this year, because it is the first seaside resort on our coast where the lifeguards once again took out their uniforms to keep an eye on things. It was already a quiet Saturday because hardly any beachgoers dared to take a splash in the water of the North Sea. “We are currently monitoring the Heist, Albertstrand and Lichttorenplein zones, and from 15 June, Duinbergen and Zoute will also be added,” says chief rescuer Dries Hautekiet (48).
