That changed after the first change of sides thanks Parker Jackson Cartwright. The Bonner build-up player, who was voted the most valuable player in the main round BBL was elected, scored a threesome at 10:25 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. That was contagious – at least it hit me Javontae Hawkins then also from a distance – to 31:33.
Jackson-Cartwright provides the first Bonn leadership
The improved efficiency – which Bonn still lacked from the free-throw line – and many ball losses by Hamburg ensured that Bonn not only stayed within striking distance, but even took the lead for the first time thanks to Jackson-Cartwright’s third three (39:38 ).
But they didn’t take the lead into half-time because they lost the ball unnecessarily in attack and then didn’t defend Hamburg’s throw-in 4.2 seconds before the break, so Justus Hollatz was able to pull to the basket unhindered and that 42:41 for scored the towers.
Baskets are ahead after three quarters
In the third quarter, Bonn did it better. They remained efficient with three-pointers with three hits from Jackson-Cartwright and two by Bowlin, and they also took a lead into the final break when Bowlin netted his second three-pointer two seconds from time to make it 67-66.
When in the last round the Lithuanian Saulius Kulvietis provided three Bonn points for the first time in the seventh attempt to make it 72:72 and Jackson-Cartwright added the 75:72, the Rhinelanders seemed to have the momentum on their side. If it weren’t for Hamburg’s Caleb Homesley, who callously countered with two threes.
Hawkins saves Bonn in overtime
Homesley and Maik Kotsar extended the lead to 84:76, so that the guests went into the final phase with the better starting position. However, Jackson-Cartwright, who was outstanding that evening, ensured that the Rhinelanders stayed on and in the final minute were only 88:90 behind after another three by Kulvietis – with Hamburg possession of the ball.
An unsportsmanlike foul by Karsten Tadda gave Hamburg two free throws and possession. They only used one free throw and then lost the ball, allowing Hawkins to level the score at 91-91 from the three-point line. Hamburg called a time-out 13 seconds before the end of regulation time to coordinate the decisive play. That didn’t work – time ran out without them putting the ball on the basket and the game went into five-minute overtime.
Hawkins decides the dramatic final threesome
In overtime, failed attempts and ball losses determined the game before Hawkins Bonn scored with his three to make it 97:93. The Hamburg team shortened the lead to 96:97, and then 22 seconds before the end of the game, Tadda made a fatal ball loss in attack. The Hamburgers scored on the other side after two offensive rebounds by Seth Hinrichs to make it 98:97 and only gave Bonners five seconds.
But Javontae Hawkins only needed four of them to hit the final score of 100:98 from what was certainly not an optimal throwing situation.
