EWE Baskets Oldenburg celebrated a resounding victory in the relegation battle of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
The team prevailed against the MLP Academics Heidelberg on coach Ingo Freyer’s debut with 109:73 (51:33), but is still bottom of the table with 6:28 points.
In front of the Oldenburgers are Oliver Würzburg (6:26) and Jobstairs Giessen (8:26). For the first time since they were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2000, the 2009 German champions are in acute danger of relegation. In 2015, the baskets had become German cup winners.
The best thrower for Oldenburg, who celebrated their first win after eight defeats in the league, was Michal Michalak with 26 points. For Heidelberg, which is in 13th place with 12:24 points, Brekkott Chapman scored the most successfully (18).
