Alba Berlin got off to a successful start in the new year and celebrated its fifth competitive win in a row. On Sunday (January 2nd, 2022) the German champions won after an increase in performance in the second half at Hamburg Towers with 88:80. Alba moved up to third place in the table of the basketball league. The best throwers from Berlin were Oscar da Silva with 15 and Marcus Eriksson and Maodo Lo with twelve points each.
However, the victory in Hamburg was hard work for Berlin. From the beginning it developed into a very intense game with a lot of speed. The leadership changed back and forth a total of 16 times, no team was able to break away. But Alba made more mistakes and had problems stopping the Hamburg offensive himself. In return, the Berliners awarded many of their distance throws. The gap at the break grew to five points for the first time.
After the break, Alba was able to improve and the hosts were no longer so easy to get points. The Berlin team took back the lead and was able to make it two-digit for the first time a good five minutes before the end (74:64). And the hosts couldn’t take that away.
