Surprise team Niners Chemnitz remains the first pursuer of league leaders Bayern Munich in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
Thanks to a very strong first half, the Niners defeated champions Ulm 83:82 (49:31) on Saturday (March 2nd, 2024). It was the fourth defeat in the last five games for the defending champions.
Chemnitz, who had recently been defeated by Bayern 80:89 in the top game, were superior from the start. In the first third the Niners pulled ahead by 13 points, and over the course of the first half they were up to 20 points ahead. Led by Kevin Yebo and Aher Uguak (16 points each), Chemnitz just managed to take the lead after the opponent’s final spurt.
Ludwigsburg turns up in Vechta in time
The Ludwigsburg giants benefited from the result. In an eventful duel between two playoff contenders, the Ludwigsburg team prevailed against Rasta Vechta with 86:72 (40:46) and drew level with Ulm and Vechta with a record of 14:8 victories.
Rasta was still leading at the beginning of the final quarter, but the giants caught up with a furious 23-0 run and took the win. It took almost ten minutes for Vechta to score in the final period. Jayvon Graves led the Giants to victory with an outstanding 28 points.
