BBB leader happy with coalition advice: ‘We get along fine in Drenthe’

Party chairman Gert-Jan Schuinder of the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) agrees with the advice to form a coalition with the VVD, CDA and PvdA. “A good outcome for further conversations,” he concludes. “Very nice that the parties have their go have given.”

In the run-up to the elections, BBB not only insisted on breaking the nitrogen impasse, but also on a change in the current management style. Schuinder wants an innovative board, with new administrators and no sealed coalition agreement. Moreover, the agreements must be evaluated after two years, instead of the final settlement being drawn up after four years.

“And it’s all in there,” Schuinder remarks about Astrid Nienhuis’s reconnaissance report. “It is a compliment to her for getting so clearly on paper what all parties want. And I think it is a good story.”

Schuinder is confident that the traditional parties can make the change in management style. “You see clear messages from the VVD that they can go against national policy. I’ve heard about this before from the CDA and the PvdA can largely go along with it. Let them beat around the bush in The Hague, in We do it together in Drenthe and we do well together.”
