Member of Parliament Caroline van der Plas (BoerBurgerBeweging) wants an emergency debate on nitrogen policy. Also on behalf of independent MP Pieter Omtzigt, she says she is submitting a request for this in response to unpublished calculations by the Ministry of Finance.
NRC wrote on Monday that these calculations show that in order to achieve the climate goals, farmers need to reduce their nitrogen emissions much less than previously thought. Agriculture would have to reduce its emissions by a quarter to half if the Netherlands adheres to all other climate agreements.
“This throws completely new light on the nitrogen case. The House has never had this information,” Van der Plas writes on Twitter.
