The RTL 4 hit B&B Vol Liefde is now a household name in the Netherlands. A lot of people talked about all those types in that program last summer. Actually, the show would be called completely different…
Almost everyone knows what you’re talking about when you say B&B Vol Liefde. It has become a mega hit in our country in a short time. Especially last summer, things really went crazy and there was a chat section in almost every program. Where did all that originate? Carlo Boszhard writes about it in his column Television.
Created by corona
Carlo praises the ‘enthusiastic and passionate’ Ralph de Beurs, creative director of RTL and Videoland. “Everything related to TV is in his blood. He just tries to find that one thing that makes the difference between a flop and a hit,” he explains. He quotes Joop van den Ende, who once said that you have to sense what the people want to see.
Ralph does that too, according to the presenter. “Ralph made The Italian Village and saw that moving abroad has a major downside. Loneliness. You go there with your partner, but when he or she disappears there is hardly anyone left. Corona made the recording of The Spanish Village impossible.”
Love Abroad
And that is why B&B Vol Liefde was created. “Ralph immediately grabbed the folder with Love Abroad on it. “Bad title, there will be a new one,” he added. Later his TV child would be called B&B Vol Liefde. From weekly to daily, the program does what makes TV so special.”
It would be great if the dating show won the Golden Televizier Ring, says Carlo. “At a time when everyone is watching their own series, we watched the stories of Debbie, Marian, Bram and Joy en masse. (…) Programs made with love often receive that same love in return. Put it on Ralph!”
