Villarreal (dpa) – Bayern Munich’s Champions League opponents FC Villarreal missed the hoped-for home win in the dress rehearsal in the Spanish top football league.
Three days before the second leg of the quarter-finals in Munich, coach Unai Emery’s team only drew 1-1 (1-0) against Athletic Bilbao. Alfonso Pedraza scored for the hosts in the 60th minute on Saturday night after Bilbao had taken the lead through Raul Garcia (43rd minute). With 46 points, Villarreal remains seventh in the Primera Division.
Bayern lost the premier class first leg in Spain after a poor performance 0-1 (0-1) and are therefore under a lot of pressure. The possible semi-final hit against Liverpool (3-1 in Lisbon) threatens to be cancelled.
