Five champions in the first decade of the millennium
The simplest solution to make the men’s football championship exciting again in Germany is a radical redistribution of money, especially the millions that are earned in international competitions.
This solution is absurd, so the DFL, in its own interest, must think about how real competition at the top can be organized again as soon as possible because of the falling media income.
In the first decade of this millennium there were five different champions (FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg). At the beginning of the following decade, BVB won two more titles. In the first, he set a club record with 81 points. FC Bayern have scored 83.6 points in their last nine championships – on average.
“Task Force Future Professional Football” also wants more excitement
The DFL’s “Future Professional Football Taskforce” also dealt with the question of how FC Bayern can be dealt with at least from time to time. It published an interim report in February 2021 stating: “The competition in both professional leagues is fair and upright, and exciting in all table regions.” The year 2030 has been set as the target.
