Bayern Munich | Report: Extension with Hernandez imminent

Lucas Hernandez has not played a competitive game for FC Bayern since November, since he tore a cruciate ligament at the World Cup in Qatar. According to a recent media report, a breakthrough is said to have been achieved in the talks about extending the Frenchman’s contract.

According to “Sky” transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, it should now be clear that FC Bayern will extend the contract with the 2018 world champion in the long term.

It is said that Hernandez should sign a new contract until 2027 in a timely manner, namely “in the coming days”. The defender’s previous working paper is dated to the summer of 2024.

In the case of Munich, the personnel situation had receded into the background due to the serious sporting crisis in the past few weeks. Over a period of several weeks, there were said to have been repeated discussions between the club’s management and the players, without an agreement having been reached to date.

But this should now exist. The most recent negotiations are said to have been “good”, Lucas Hernandez is still seen as a “key player” for the defense at Bayern, Plettenberg reported.

Hernandez cost 80 million euros

Hernandez, who can be used defensively and flexibly, switched from Atletico Madrid to the German record champions in the summer of 2019. At that time he came for the record transfer fee of 80 million euros.

In the current season, the 27-year-old had appeared in eleven competitive games for FC Bayern before suffering a serious knee injury and scored one goal.

However, Hernandez recently made headlines in the tabloid press because of his trip to Italy with teammate Benjamin Pavard.

At the latest for the new pre-season, he wants to be fully operational again for Munich.
