After the flawless group phase in the Champions League, FC Bayern are now looking at the remaining three Bundesliga games against Hertha BSC (A), SV Werder Bremen (H) and FC Schalke 04 (A). With Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, two star players were still questionable until the end. Before the Berlin guest performance, there is now clarity.
Captain Manuel Neuer is expected to return to the Munich goal after his shoulder problems against Hertha BSC. His last league game was four weeks ago, and he was last represented three times by Sven Ulreich.
Neuer has been able to train without restrictions since Wednesday. The 36-year-old was then able to fully participate in the further training workload, including the final training on Friday, so that nothing stands in the way of a comeback from the starting eleven.
“I’m fine. I was happy to be back with the team. Accordingly, I will now be part of the team,” the goalkeeper told club media on Friday.
New in front of historic Bundesliga record
The game with the old lady from Berlin could be a historic one for the goalkeeper. Neuer has won 21 times against Hertha BSC in his Bundesliga career so far (three draws and one defeat). Six times in the jersey of FC Schalke, he got the other 15 wins in Bayern dress.
Nobody has managed more than 21 wins against a single Bundesliga opponent, so a new record beckons for the captain of the German record champions should the 22nd win against Berlin work out.
At the same time, things are looking less good for offensive all-rounder Thomas Müller. The Bayern veteran is currently out of action with adductor problems and will definitely be out against Hertha on Saturday (from 3:30 p.m.). Most recently, the 33-year-old only did casual running exercises.
According to plan, Müller should be back in the Munich squad in the last competitive game before the World Cup break in a week and a half against FC Schalke. The World Cup itself should not be in danger anyway.
