Coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed on Friday that Benjamin Pavard would like to leave FC Bayern four years after moving from VfB Stuttgart to Munich. So it’s no surprise that people on Säbener Straße are keeping their eyes peeled for a replacement. Now a surprising detail from the actions of the German record champions came to light.
“Benji [Benjamin Pavard, d.Red.] asked for a change,” explained Thomas Tuchel on Friday, but also made it clear that the desire alone is no guarantee that the Frenchman will leave FC Bayern.
“He is held in the highest esteem by the coaching staff and has played at a consistently high level. That’s why there’s also the timing side. There has to be an offer that makes sense for the club, there has to be a replacement. The offer came very late, the request came very late. That’s why I’m relaxed. I will continue to work professionally with Benji. If things change, it’s up to us to find a replacement at short notice,” continued Tuchel.
In order to be prepared in case of an emergency, the people of Munich are probably already letting their eyes wander. Rumors about right-backs, which are said to have aroused the interest of the German record champions, have recently been rampant.
“Sky” has now revealed that a future Bayern maker should already have his fingers in the pie: Christoph Freund, who will take over the post of sports director at Bayern on September 1st.
Remaining at Bayern a “realistic option”
“The Pavard search for a successor is a topic that is being discussed very sharply. Freund is involved and also throws in ideas about the search for a successor,” says “Sky” transfer expert Florian Plettenberg.
However, Freund’s early involvement is no guarantee that you will find what you are looking for in the Bavarian capital.
“There is the realistic option that Bayern will not find a successor and Pavard will have to stay at Bayern,” Plettenberg continued.
Should this happen, however, the Munich team is threatened with a free transfer loss of the defender: Pavard’s contract ends in the summer of 2024, and it is probably impossible for the Frenchman to extend the working paper again.
If the sport.de users have their way, the separation should come this summer anyway. In a survey of almost 50,000 voters, 71 percent voted for Bayern to let Pavard go.
