On the last day of the game, FC Bayern snatched the championship away from BVB – thanks to Jamal Musiala, who scored the late winner at 1. FC Köln. This is the end of a difficult season for the German international.
“It was an unbelievably instructive season for me,” confessed master maker Musiala in an interview with “Sport Bild”. At times it was like a roller coaster ride with ups and downs.
At first everything went according to plan for the offensive player. “I got on really well, played a very good first half of the season, was in the flow and everything went well,” he summarized. In fact, up until the World Cup in Qatar, Musiala had scored a whopping nine goals and provided seven assists in the Bundesliga alone. As a beacon of hope, he traveled to the tournament with the DFB selection. There he experienced the first bitter disappointment with the preliminary round.
That left a big mark on both the 20-year-old and his Bayern colleagues. “After the World Cup, we found it very difficult as a team and I personally, the flow and the lightness just weren’t there anymore, it was like bewitched for me,” he confessed. In the second half of the season, the offensive start could only score three goals and provide six assists.
Bayern star Musiala “just wants to clear his head”
His last goal of the season on matchday 34 was by far the most important of his young career: after being substituted on late, Jamal Musiala showed his old self-confidence in the 89th minute and shot Bayern to the championship. “It’s an unbelievable feeling. Personally, I’m over the moon that I’ve finally scored another goal – and one that’s so important. I was determined to score a goal.”
According to the noble technician, the coming season must “be better, more constant and more dominant”. FC Bayern wants to “attack again in all competitions and then go into the home European Championship with a good feeling and with titles”.
Before that, however, Jamal Musiala wants to finish mentally with the past season: “Now I just want to clear my head and go on vacation, it was a blatant year for me.” He can switch off until preparing for the international matches with the German national team.
