Bayern Munich | Matthäus targets Hoeneß: “I have to question myself”

Very restless days lie behind FC Bayern. With the change of coach from Julian Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel, the German record champions shocked the football world. Record national player and FCB legend Lothar Matthäus hardly recognizes his former club.

Before the top game against BVB, FC Bayern is all about the coaching earthquake in the previous week. A few days after club president Herbert Hainer made a public statement, the industry leader parted ways with coach Julian Nagelsmann in order to give new impetus to the hot phase of the triple hunt.

An approach that definitely irritated Lothar Matthäus. “However, what bothered me was the way the change was made. The Mia-san-Mia feeling is gone, warmth, cordiality and togetherness are missing, the atmosphere in the club is different. I know that many in the club think like that. All statements about Nagelsmann was nothing but lip service,” complained the 62-year-old in a guest post for “kicker”.

Under the leadership of the longtime bosses Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, such incidents would certainly not have happened, emphasized Matthäus and added: “Both are missing in their own way.”

In the same breath, the record national player also pointed out Hoeneß’s omissions and mistakes. “Uli got the successor and has to question whether he did everything right,” Matthäus remarked critically.

The 1990 world champion is therefore not surprised that Bayern fans are “disappointed”.

On Saturday, Nagelsmann’s successor Thomas Tuchel will be on the sidelines for the first time in Munich. With a win in a direct duel with league leaders Borussia Dortmund (from 6:30 p.m.), FCB could not only retake the top spot, but also soothe their own supporters a little after a chaotic few days.
