Bayern Munich | Matthäus attacks Kahn: “I know he’s lying”

Before FC Bayern’s top game against BVB, record national player Lothar Matthäus and Munich’s CEO Oliver Kahn exchanged blows openly. Matthew then raised serious allegations against his longtime companion. And Julian Nagelsmann’s management also commented.

Lothar Matthäus was visibly upset after the confrontation with his former teammate Oliver Kahn, which developed before the Bundesliga summit between FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund (4: 2) in front of the “Sky” cameras.

During the half-time break, the 62-year-old followed up on “t-online” – and made serious allegations: “I know that Oliver Kahn is lying.”

Matthäus continued: “Oliver Kahn just wants to distract from his problems and then he attacks me. But I was prepared for that.” The Bayern boss did not answer the question from “Sky” moderator Sebastian Hellmann.

Kahn did not want to announce the separation over the phone

The reason for the dispute is the processes behind the release of Julian Nagelsmann during the international phase. Because: Nagelsmann apparently found out about his departure from FC Bayern from the press. Matthäus criticized: “I only say what I hear, see and feel. The chronological sequence, as described by Kahn, does not fit together.”

Nagelsmann’s separation was officially announced on March 24, and the media had unanimously reported on it the evening before. Matthäus then criticized the Bayern bosses, which in turn Kahn raised before the game against BVB: “Always this insinuation that we would not maintain the style of FC Bayern, so I would be very, very careful there.”

The former world-class goalkeeper described the circumstances of Nagelsmann’s separation as a “disaster” on “Sky”. That was “not good” and the situation was “muddled and very difficult for the Bayern Munich leadership”. According to Kahn, Nagelsmann, who was on a short vacation, did not want to be informed about the release over the phone.

Nagelsmann management intervenes

“It was very important to me that Julian, who unfortunately was still on vacation at the time, came to Säbener Strasse. We then spoke to him and told him the reasons why we released him,” said Kahn.

On Saturday evening, Julian Nagelsmann’s management intervened for the first time in the dispute. “There was no contact and no attempt to contact Bayern. Julian Nagelsmann’s management called Hasan Salihamidzic even after the various rumors in the media,” said the consulting agency “Sports360”.
