The Austrian national player Marcel Sabitzer will probably not leave FC Bayern this summer after all. This was indicated by the board member Oliver Kahn after the Munich team won 2-0 against VfL Wolfsburg. A transfer from Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer is probably also off the table – at least this year.
With strong performances in training, in the preparatory games and in the first competitive games of the new season, Marcel Sabitzer has earned a second chance at FC Bayern.
After the midfielder had been on the record champions’ internal strike list for a long time, the tide on Säbener Straße has now turned.
After the win against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, FCB board member Oliver Kahn was asked by “AZ” whether Bayern could save themselves the fee for Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer after Sabitzer’s strong performance. His answer: “The transfer list is still a bit open, but overall we’re done.”
Means: The record champions will probably not dare to make any big leaps on the transfer market, so they will also refrain from buying Konrad Laimer, who would cost around 30 million euros, but could move to Munich for free in the summer of 2023.
Does FC Bayern get Laimer for free?
So there is much to suggest that FC Bayern will complete the deal a year late at no cost. The record champions agreed to work with Laimer some time ago. Only the high transfer fee from Saxony prevented a transfer this summer.
Just last week, the “kicker” reported that FC Bayern was still willing to sell Sabitzer in the current transfer window and then try to find Laimer. However, Oliver Kahn’s words indicate that those responsible at Munich have now changed their minds.
