Bayern Munich | “Injured vanity”: Babbel takes on Neuer

With his frustration interview, Manuel Neuer has upset FC Bayern. Ex-professional Markus Babbel now joins the long list of critics of the Munich captain.

Despite the convincing away wins in Mainz (DFB Cup) and Wolfsburg (Bundesliga), which ended FC Bayern’s earnings crisis, the German record champions are still uneasy.

The main reason for this is keeper Manuel Neuer, who made unpleasant headlines with his sensational interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and “The Athletic”.

The 36-year-old was remarkably critical of his employer, who recently relieved Neuer’s goalkeeping coach and best man Toni Tapalovic of his duties.

FC Bayern: Babbel suspects “extreme, offended vanity” at Neuer

According to former Bayern player Markus Babbel, Neuer did the club a disservice with his behavior.

“I can totally understand the disappointment. It’s a very close relationship that a goalkeeper has with his goalkeeping coach. […] But I couldn’t understand the way he passed it on. He knows exactly what he wants to achieve with this interview. In the end he attacks the officials, he attacks the club because he can’t understand the decision,” the former national defender assessed the situation on the “ran Bundesliga web show”.

Neuer should “not forget one thing: he is a highly paid professional, he deserves it because of his performance. But he is still an employee. And an employee is not entitled to express himself in public like that,” Babbel clarified .

The 50-year-old suspects “extreme, offended vanity” and “personal, human disappointment” behind the interview. “I think he thought his standing was higher and that he had been spoken to before something like that happened,” said Babbel.
