Bayern Munich | Hoeneß: Olympia in Germany only with compromises

Bayern Munich’s Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has called for a willingness to compromise on hosting the Olympic Games in Germany.

“On the one hand, you don’t want games to take place in countries like China, on the other hand, we complain when a few trees have to be felled for games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen,” said the 70-year-old at the #neuland congress in Aachen.

If you are not willing to cut corners, the Olympic Games would “always take place in countries where the masses of people are not asked,” said Hoeneß and went on to explain: “You can also talk everything to pieces. You have to die a death.”

Germany last hosted the Olympic Games with Munich in 1972. Subsequent candidatures failed due to the vote of the members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and most recently due to the lack of support from the population. The new management of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) openly sympathizes with future applications.
