Because of Manuel Neuer’s serious injury, there is speculation around FC Bayern about a return of loan player Alexander Nübel. But is the quality of the former Schalke enough to stand between the posts at Bayern Munich? An expert has doubts.
“Alexander Nübel is extremely strong on the line,” said ex-PSG keeper Jérome Alonzo.sports1“. But the 50-year-old restricted: “When running out, he often makes the wrong decision: either because he comes out too late or stays on his line.”
Technically, Nübel, who is now playing for AS Monaco until the summer, doesn’t seem “safe”. Alonzo judged: “In these areas he has clear deficits that he should fix as soon as possible.”
Already after Monaco’s 4-0 defeat in the group stage of the Europa League at Trabzonspor in October, Alonzo had dealt violently against Nübel.
“And that should be Manuel Neuer’s successor at Bayern?” Asked the former goalkeeper in a live broadcast on “L’Équipe TV” and added: “He doesn’t make a particularly good impression on me. He seems lame, insecure and technically it’s rather limited.”
So far, FC Bayern has not asked Monaco about Nübel’s early return anyway. This was confirmed by his advisor Stefan Backs of the “German Press Agency”.
There is “no contact” with the record champions, and the 26-year-old keeper himself has “not heard from Munich”.
Alexander Nübel’s contract with FC Bayern runs until 2025
Nübel moved to Munich from FC Schalke 04 in the summer of 2020 as a potential successor to national goalkeeper Neuer.
After only making four competitive appearances in his first season, the former U21 international goalkeeper was loaned to Monaco for the 2021/2022 season.
Since then, he has been an unrestricted regular in sixth place in Ligue 1. Nübel’s contract with FC Bayern runs until 2025.
