Before the Bundesliga summit between the two top teams Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern takes place on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., Bayern President Herbert Hainer answered questions about the most important topics relating to the Munich team in an interview.
The main focus was on FC Bayern’s transfer activities, and Hainer did not rule out breaking with an old dogma.
You don’t have the financial resources “like the clubs, which are financed by investors and entire states and therefore have to “do business wisely”, but you are “absolutely debt-free” and 100 percent owner of your own stadium, Hainer gave way to the question of one EUR 100 million transfer, long categorically ruled out by his predecessor, in conversation with the “tz“, but also didn’t deny that this sound barrier could be broken.
However, the priority is always that the player fits in with FC Bayern. “Not only financially, but also in terms of personality and game philosophy,” says Hainer.
In any case, the past transfer summer was already an incision. He exchanged views with CEO Oliver Kahn and sports boss Hasan Salihamidzic and they came to the realization that one had to approach the interesting players “early enough” so that one really had a chance.
“That worked well. As is well known, we signed five players and also had alternatives on our list, for each position an A, B and C solution. Kudos to Hasan and his team: We have the A for every transfer get a solution,” says Hainer about the success of this approach.
“That evening FC Bayern was not FC Bayern”
Furthermore, due to the upcoming annual general meeting on October 15, Hainer commented on the inglorious appearance of the club at the last meeting, at which the club management was mercilessly confronted by the members present with the controversial Qatar sponsorship, the present ultimately acting rude and helpless stalled and unleashed a storm of indignation.
“On that evening, FC Bayern was not the FC Bayern we want to see as a whole. We all made mistakes and for my part I want to do better this time. […] It’s a matter close to my heart to show that that wasn’t the real FC Bayern,” said Hainer.
Hainer explained that there will be an early dinner with the BVB bosses in the run-up to FC Bayern’s guest appearance in Dortmund and revealed what particularly appeals to him about this meeting: “I’m looking forward to it because it’s always interesting, the atmosphere at BVB,” explained the 68-year-old in an interview with “tz“.
However, it is still possible that the cooperation with sponsor Qatar Airways will continue. The contract will be fulfilled until 2023. Kahn and Co. would have to decide what to do next. Basically, however, the club boss emphasized that he believed that the commitment in the emirate had positive effects.
FC Bayern firmly believes in Julian Nagelsmann
In addition, Hainer coach Julian Nagelsmann strengthened his back. The fact that Munich was unable to win four Bundesliga games in a row under the young coach “may have been the hardest time for him at Bayern”, but Nagelsmann still has a “great career ahead of him” and has to go his own way. “In any case, here at the club we are absolutely convinced that he is the right man for us on the right path.”
A view that Nagelsmann could certainly reinforce with a win against BVB. Incidentally, Hainer explained that in the run-up to FC Bayern’s guest appearance in Dortmund there will be an early dinner with the BVB bosses and revealed what particularly appeals to him about this meeting: “I’m looking forward to it because it’s always interesting to see the To explore the mood at BVB,” said the 68-year-old.
