Villarreal (AP) – Leon Goretzka suffered “a small cut” in the FC Bayern Munich Champions League game at FC Villarreal, reported coach Julian Nagelsmann.
When Bayern Munich lost 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals, the international soccer player was injured when he headed in injury time. Villarreal defender Pau Torres elbowed Goretzka in the face. Nagelsmann spoke of a brutal use of the arm, but did not want to rate the action as a “crystal clear penalty”. Goretzka has a black eye, he said in the press conference after the game.
The midfielder even wanted to rush back onto the field after receiving treatment on the sidelines. Nagelsmann had already substituted Marc Roca for Goretzka because he apparently didn’t want to wait in the final seconds and temporarily had ten men on the pitch. Goretzka should not fail because of the injury.
