For almost two weeks it has been clear that FC Barcelona will have to do without his club legend Sergio Busquets in the future. The search for a successor is already in full swing. Five professionals are said to be on the wish list for the Catalans. Joshua Kimmich from FC Bayern is at the top.
As reported by “Mundo Deportivo” on Saturday, FC Barcelona officials currently have five players as potential Busquets successors. The club legend will leave Barca at the end of the season after 18 years. If coach Xavi has his way, Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich will take his place.
The German international is the preferred transfer target for a number of reasons, claims the Spanish sports newspaper. The arguments for Kimmich are therefore his playful class, his versatility, international experience, his qualities in standard situations, his ideal age, his good relationship with Xavi and his existing connection to Robert Lewandowski and Marc-André ter Stegen.
FC Bayern wants to keep Kimmich at all costs
However, those responsible for Barca are also aware that a Kimmich transfer will not take place without the consent of FC Bayern. And since Munich do not want to give up their leading player, a deal is almost impossible.
That’s why Barca’s wish list includes other names as well. According to “Mundo”, the other candidates are Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina), Guido Rodríguez (Real Betis) and Rúben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) – well-sounding names, none of which have the reputation and class of the German national player.
The Munich bosses know that too. You see Kimmich (contract until 2025) as an important building block on the way to a successful future. Because of this, they don’t want to give up the midfielder under any circumstances.
