The FC Bayern Munich basketball players have once again failed to reduce their gap to the playoff places in the Euroleague. The Bundesliga basketball team lost at home against Olympiakos Piraeus 72:76 (37:35) and is still only in 14th place after the 15th defeat in the 25th European Cup game of the season.
For the seventh time this season there were two Euroleague games in one week, and once again Bayern failed to win both games. Two days earlier, the Munich team had beaten Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Bayern made a good impression offensively, but were initially not very accurate. The defense stood up for it, so that Munich were only behind 14:18 after the first quarter. In the second half, the hosts found their rhythm, especially thanks to Elias Harris, and with a 7-0 run they went into the locker room with a 37:35 lead.
The Munich team started the second half well and extended their lead to 44:37, but then lost the thread a bit and were behind 51:54 before the final period. Sylvain Francisco and Serge Ibaka (18 points each) kept Bayern in the game, with three minutes left Ibaka cut the lead to 67:70. But the Bundesliga basketball team was no longer able to turn the game around. World champion Andreas Obst missed the three-pointer to equalize in the final seconds.
