Cracked metatarsal
Bayer Leverkusen will probably have to do without defender Piero Hincapié in preparation for the new season. As Ecuador’s football association announced on Sunday evening, the defender suffered a partial fracture in his right metatarsal in the international match against Bolivia at the weekend. The 21-year-old is not only missing in the next game of “La Tri” on Wednesday against Costa Rica, but also for the time being for his club to start their preparations. Ecuador’s squad is currently playing for US internationals. Training starts in Leverkusen on July 10th.
At Bayer, Hincapié was part of coach Xabi Alonso’s regular formation last season and played 30 games. The four missed games were all due to red cards (three) and a yellow card suspension. On the penultimate matchday Hincapié saw the red card in the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2:2), which is why he still misses the first two matchdays of the new Bundesliga season anyway. Now, due to injury, there could be an absence in the first main round of the DFB Cup from August 11th to 14th. The Leverkusen then have to compete with the Hamburg regional league club Teutonia Ottensen.
