Bayer Leverkusen: Schick’s return is delayed

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen can only plan with striker Patrik Schick again in October.

The Czech international had to have an adductor operation at the Berlin Charité in June and, according to the club, will not return until October.

Last season, the 27-year-old, who is already completing the rehabilitation program, was out for weeks due to groin problems. Schick’s last assignment for Bayer was in early March. In the 2021/22 season, the EM star scored 24 Bundesliga goals for Leverkusen.

Bayer also announced the recovery status of four other injured players on Tuesday. Piero Hincapié is also working on his return in rehab.

The Ecuadorian international suffered a fracture of his right metatarsal during the international match against Bolivia in mid-June and had to undergo surgery in June. A return of the 21-year-old is envisaged for early September.

Meanwhile, Robert Andrich has been denying his rehabilitation program for a few weeks. The midfielder sustained a fracture in his left metatarsal in the last sprint of the past season. At the training camp in Saalfelden, Austria (July 23-28), the 28-year-old wants to join the Bayer squad.

Odilon Kossounou, who also injured himself in the final spurt of the season and sustained a muscle injury in his right thigh, will start training with the team at short notice.

Niklas Lomb is suffering from a torn muscle fiber in his left calf. Goalkeeper downtime is four to six weeks.
