Like his predecessor Rudi Völler, Simon Rolfes, who will be the new sports director at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen from Friday, wants to leave his footsteps with the Rhinelanders.
“Of course that’s my goal too. To develop Bayer 04 further, to bring my components and my view of football here,” said the 40-year-old ex-national player in a media session on Thursday.
In terms of basic approaches, Rolfes continued, he wasn’t that far apart from the 1990 world champion: “Maybe I’m a little more open to new things. But it’s not about chasing after every renewal.”
