Spending rises to 78 million
Bayer 04 Leverkusen are apparently on the verge of strengthening their offensive again. At the same time, a departure has been official since Saturday morning. At the same time how “The Athletic” and sky unanimously report that the “Werkself” have reached an agreement with FC Southampton on the modalities of a transfer of Nathan Tella. The portal assumes a transfer fee of 20 million pounds and thus the equivalent of 23.3 million euros. In addition, the relegated “Saints” are said to have secured a share in the event of a resale of the winger.

The 24-year-old Tella has a five-year contract in Leverkusen. The medical check is planned for Saturday. The offensive man was also reportedly being courted by Burnley, Stade Rennes and West Ham United. According to “Sky”, according to the agreement reached late Friday evening, 20 million euros plus bonuses should flow. According to the TV broadcaster, the last details will be clarified in these hours. The Bundesliga club’s transfer spending is likely to rise to at least EUR 77.5 million in the near future – compared to the current EUR 68.7 million for player sales.

Bayer 04 strengthened their attack this summer with Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface. Tella is seen as a prime choice for the winger after Moussa Diaby was sold to Aston Villa for €55m. “We had different offers for Nathan and none of them came close in my opinion. He’s a great boy and I’d be disappointed to lose him,” Southampton coach Russell Martin told the Southern Daily Echo a few days ago.
Tella comes from the Arsenal youth team and joined the Saints in 2017. There he had to wait a comparatively long time for his breakthrough. It was only in February 2021 that the Englishman was in the starting XI for the first time in the Premier League, his first and so far only goal in the top flight followed three months later. Bayer should have found the reasons for the multi-million dollar offer last season. There, Tella was supposed to gain match practice at Burnley FC in the Championship on loan and shot the “Clarets” with 17 goals and five assists for promotion. His contract at Southampton, which sold players for €153m after relegation, ends in 2025.
Official: Bayer Leverkusen loan Sardar Azmoun to AS Roma
Bayer 04 will initially lose center forward Sardar Azmoun. The 28-year-old, with a contract until 2027, is loaned out to AS Roma. According to reports, there is a purchase option of EUR 12 million. Only formalities and the medical check were recently open, now everything is clarified. “It was Sardar’s wish to start again in a different environment,” explained Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting director. “Unfortunately, he has struggled a lot with injuries over the past year and a half. Now we have reached a good agreement with Roma. In Serie A, Sardar can prove his class at the absolute top level.”
The medical tests were considered the “sticking point”. Azmoun suffered a torn muscle in his right calf at the Werkself training camp at the end of July, and the Bundesliga club described the downtime as “medium-term”. However, Roma really need a fit striker because Tammy Abraham (25) will be out with a cruciate ligament injury until the end of the year. Andrea Belotti (29) scored twice in the rather disappointing 2-2 draw against US Salernitana in the Serie A opener, but is currently the only regular centre-forward in José Mourinho’s squad. If the Englishman returns, Brazilian talent Marcos Leonardo (20; Santos) could also join the team. A change from Atalanta’s Duván Zapata (32), on the other hand, fell through because “La Dea” will miss record signing El Bilal Touré (21) with a thigh injury until autumn.
