interest from Brazil
Charles Aránguiz flirted with a return to Internacional Porto Alegre in Brazil last summer, but Bayer Leverkusen didn’t let the Chilean international go. A few months later, the situation looks different. Like the “kicker” and the “picture‘ unanimously report that the ‘Werkself’ are ready to hand over Aránguiz six months before the end of his contract.
According to “Bild”, two of Internacional’s league rivals, Gremio Porto Alegre and FC São Paulo, are said to be interested in Aránguiz. Discussions between the clubs and the players are in progress, but Bayer 04 have not yet received anything concrete. The fact that Leverkusen are opening the door to a farewell also has something to do with the fact that the “Werkself” want to improve in midfield in the winter.
According to the “Kicker”, Bayer would like to sign a “real six” who can act alone in front of the defense in the 4-3-3 system. Scouting is also done in South America. João Gomes from Copa Libertadores winner Flamengo Rio de Janeiro is a candidate. According to the Brazilian media, the 21-year-old has been observed by the “Werkself” for weeks. The catch: Flamengo only extended Gomes to 2027 in September and apparently does not want to give him up until summer at the earliest. There is a fee of around 15 million euros in the room.

Bayer Leverkusen: Alan Varela is also in focus as a replacement for Aránguiz
Alongside Gomes, according to the magazine, Boca Juniors’ Argentinian Alan Varela is on Bayer Leverkusen’s list. The 21-year-old, who was recently associated with Inter Milan, Ajax Amsterdam and the City Football Group, among others, also only signed a new contract in August until the end of 2026 – albeit with an exit clause. This should amount to 15 million US dollars (around 14.2 million euros).
22x over 10 million: Bayer Leverkusen’s most expensive additions
If a new midfielder joins the Werkself, Bayer 04 could not only get a transfer fee by selling Aránguiz, but above all save the high salary. The Chilean, who has been struggling with a stubborn calf injury since October and will only return to training in the new year, would meanwhile give up his unloved role as a reserve player. Aránguiz has played 751 minutes in 15 games for Leverkusen this season and scored two goals.
