Bayer 04: Florian Wirtz back in training – hope for World Cup place?

4-time national player

Midfielder Florian Wirtz has returned to team training for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for the first time after suffering a cruciate ligament injury and can therefore still hope for a place at the World Cup. The 19-year-old completed parts of the team training on Monday, the factory club said on Twitter.

Wirtz tore his cruciate ligament in March and is waiting for his comeback. Under national coach Hansi Flick, he made his debut in September 2021 in the 2-0 win in the World Cup qualifier in Liechtenstein and has played four international matches to date. Flick will name his squad for the World Cup in Qatar, which begins on November 20th, on November 10th.

In addition to Wirtz, Karim Bellarabi also took part in Bayer’s team training for the first time after a break of more than two months. The 32-year-old offensive player was diagnosed with an external meniscus tear in his left knee in mid-August.
