Battery impaired: That’s why you should sort out your smartphone apps regularly

Just like the closet, the basement or the garage, electronic devices need to be tidied up every now and then and apps that are rarely used need to be sorted out. Because you have to admit to yourself that you hardly need every single app, every photo and every song on your smartphone. Most unused things rob not only storage space, but also battery life and also have access to personal data. We reveal how and what you should better sort out on your constant companion.

storage space

Before you start tidying up, smartphone users should first get an overview. To do this, go to the “Memory” or “Memory management” area in the device settings. There is then with Android and also OK read how much storage space is occupied by which files and which file types take up the most storage space. The proportion of apps, photos, videos and other files then provides information about which measures are to be taken next.

Clean up apps

Once you have an overview, it is time to tidy up the smartphone and decide which apps you want to keep and which have become superfluous for your own purposes and can be deleted. The fewer apps on your phone, the better. Because with every app, problems creep onto the smartphone. In addition to the consumption of storage space and battery life, the program also asks for all personal data in many cases. So if you don’t want the flashlight app to have access to photos, contacts and the exact location, you should think twice about whether the app is really necessary. If you decide to use the program anyway, you should block access to all data that is not required for the function of the program in the settings and play it safe.

Clear background data

There are always apps that users use regularly, but which seem to consume far too much memory. This does not necessarily have to be due to the size of the app itself, because in many cases it is due to the data that the app saves in the background. This is often intended to improve the performance of the application, but it is often just unnecessary data that impairs the function and speed of the smartphone. However, it is possible to solve the problem without having to uninstall the entire application at once, since the accumulated data can be safely deleted. If you then open the app again as usual, you may only have to log in again. With games, it is important to save an intermediate score beforehand, since the process can also delete data relating to the score.
