“My name is Bastiaan Vroegop (1988) and I work as a tech journalist on the service journalism editorial board. I studied Journalism and Photography in Friesland, after which I started writing about technology and video games. I did that as a freelancer at, among others RTL News† NRC Handelsblad† gamer.nl and several magazines. I started as a freelancer at NU.nl in 2015, after which I became a permanent employee of the tech editors in 2016. Shortly after that I became a coordinator there, after which I started freelancing again in 2019 – I wanted to move to Friesland again and then working from home as freelancing is easier. However, then the corona pandemic followed, which made working from home more the norm and I was able to return to DPG, in the service department. The service editors make practical stories for the news. For example, in the case of a data breach, I explain how a leak can arise and how you can protect yourself against it. I partly write those stories myself, but I also coordinate a team of freelancers who write about tech for NU.nl.”
