Element Of Crime announced on Facebook on Monday (September 5) that bassist David Young has died at the age of 73. Young was a member of the Berlin band for more than 20 years and left in June of this year.
The group shared a picture of Young on Facebook and dedicated an obituary to him: “It is with great dismay and sadness that we announce the passing of David Young in the middle of last week. Dave has been instrumental in shaping ELEMENT OF CRIME over the past 35 years. He has been there since 1987 as an engineer, producer, guitarist and bassist. Although he had been in poor health for a long time, his death came as a complete surprise to us. He was our comrade-in-arms, colleague, teacher, friend and brother. We will miss him very much!”.
Markus Runzheimer is following in Young’s footsteps
Before that, fans will receive a newsletter on Tuesday (30 August). The band also introduced Young’s successor under the title “In their own right”: “Here’s a message on our own behalf: David Young, bassist of Element Of Crime since 2003, unfortunately no longer plays with us. The new bassist is Markus Runzheimer,” the group said.
Element of Crime have no end in sight
In April of this year, Element Of Crime announced their new record. “The rest of the year is spent on writing and recording songs because we’re working on a new album. It will be out next year, maybe in the spring, we’ll see,” the group said. Most recently, her long player “Schafe, Monster und Mice” (2018) was released.
Further information about Young’s death is not yet known. Despite the loss, the concert series that started in June should continue. There are still two of the planned gigs to come – the band will be performing in Zurich on October 11th and 12th.
