Bonn, Berlin, Hamburg, Abu Dhabi, Okinawa: the basketball players filmed the turbulent journey through the summer of the World Cup. However, there is no streaming partner.
The German basketball players should be spared unpleasant video sequences of raging coaches or bubbling association directors. Because unlike the DFB-Elf, whose World Cup documentary from Qatar “All or nothing” was produced by Amazon Prime, the German Basketball Association (DBB) does this work itself.
In the documentary series “A summer – with the nation around the world” published on YouTube, the association plans to trace this year’s path of the European Championship third to the World Cup in Japan.
Basketball World Cup 2023: DBB team is aiming for a medal
Bonn, Berlin, Hamburg and Abu Dhabi are the stops before the World Cup preliminary round in Okinawa, which starts this Friday (2:10 p.m. / Magentasport) against co-hosts Japan. In episode one “Team Finding” it is, among other things, about reducing the squad to twelve players, who are then also allowed to travel to the World Cup.
“As much as I love this job, this is a day I really hate,” said national coach Gordon Herbert about the talks with the canceled professionals.
Whether the German trip to the World Cup (August 25 to September 10) ends in Okinawa or in Manila will only be decided during the tournament. Only the top eight teams make it to the final round, which takes place entirely in the Philippines. Germany is one of the favorites and has issued a medal as a clear goal.
