Basketball: Suspension – NBA penalizes Phoenix owners

As of: 09/13/2022 7:43 p.m

the NBA has Robert Sarver, owner of the phoenix suns, suspended for one year after making racist and misogynist statements. In addition, the club owner was fined ten million US dollars (around ten million euros).

An investigation released by the North American Basketball League found evidence that the 60-year-old businessman was involved in “workplace misconduct and organizational deficiencies.”

Sarver, who alongside the Phoenix Suns also owns the women’s team Phoenix Mercury from the WNBA has previously been accused of making racist, misogynistic and hostile statements over the past two decades. The TV station “ESPN“had reported on it for the first time in November 2021 after numerous discussions with current and former team employees. The NBA then commissioned a law firm to investigate. The Suns owner denied the allegations through a team of lawyers.

Sarver is now banned from attending any NBA or WNBA game, including offices, arenas, or training halls, for twelve months. In addition, he may not represent the teams either publicly or privately.
