Ratiopharm Ulm won its away game in the Basketball Bundesliga against Bamberg Baskets with 84 to 76. A strong final quarter brought victory on Friday evening.

Karim Jallow reported sick before the game. In any case, Ulm was missing the long-term injured Herkenhoff, Mathias and Christen. How the team compensated for that in this game was impressive.

Ulm and Bamberg initially at eye level

Ulm starts the game well. Coach Anton Gavel’s team runs the ball quickly. Spectacular basketball may look different, but it is successful. However, Ulm also benefited from Bamberg’s five ball losses in the first ten minutes during the build-up of the game. The guest lead after the first quarter is narrow (18:21). Ulm even scored two points for themselves, and de Paula scored a goal of her own, which is rare in basketball.

Top scorer for Ulm in the first round: Frenchman Pacome Dadiet (number 1)

Klepeisz threesome as “Hello-Wake”

Both teams start weakly in the second quarter. Many throws go wrong, at Ulm as well as at Bamberg. Thomy Klepeisz achieves the “hello-wake moment”. The Ulm captain starts a series of four successful three-point throws for his team with a three-pointer. The resulting nine-point lead for Ulm lasted almost until halftime (36:43). The top scorer for Ulm in the first half was the young Frenchman Pacome Dadiet with ten points.

Ulm with a lot of light – and a lot of shadow

The second half begins with a “Trevion Williams Show” The Ulm center flies, stuffs and scores. Unfortunately, he sometimes loses the ball so that the guests cannot pull away. Ulm is particularly strong in this third quarter when it plays quickly. The long attacks, with many stations, do not seem convincing. It was then a three-pointer from ex-Ulm player Patrick Heckmann that brought Bamberg back to within one point. And because Nunez misplaced the quick attack and Onu scored in return for the home team, Bamberg led 63 to 62 before the last ten minutes.

With fight and Williams to victory

The last quarter goes wild. The leadership goes back and forth. Dadiet provides proof that today it’s all about a lot of fighting. The 18-year-old wins the ball in the “ground fight” and puts it in the front of the basket. An audible dampener for the 5,500 spectators in the Bamberg Arena. In the final minutes nothing works for Bamberg. Losses of the ball and missed throws bring the Ulm team victory. It is admirable how Anton Gavel’s team compensated for the numerous failures in the final phase. Trevion Williams proves himself to be an extremely important player again. The 84 to 76 away win was deserved in the end.
