Basketball players Scylla from Groningen lose the last game of the season in Veghel

For the basketball players of Scylla, the competition in the promotion division is over. The last, 22nd, game of this season was lost against Attacus: 92-95.

Scylla played an excellent first half of the season with 14 points and a view of the playoffs. A dramatic second half of the season with many injuries and only one win meant that the Groningen team had to look down.

Good news for the Groningen team is that, despite the defeat, they remained in ninth place, and thus above the relegation line.

Vincent Otten stops as coach

Less news is that they have to look for a new coach: Vincent Otten thinks it is enough after three years. “It is time for a new face for the group. I will remain involved with Scylla, but I don’t know how I will color that yet,” he says.

Otten saw in his last game as coach that Scylla did not start badly. After 27-22 in favor of Attacus, however, things went much less for the guests in the second and third quarters. The team from Veghel ran to 53-44 until halftime. Attacus extended that lead to 86-69.

Then came the turnaround for Scylla in the last quarter. ,,Everyone fought back and we made a great recovery”, Otten said from the side. In the final phase, Scylla approached by a three-pointer from Rico Bakker (top scorer with 15 points) to 1 point: 92-93.

A personal foul by Rik Smid, followed by two free throws, eventually resulted in Scylla’s small defeat: 92-95.
