National basketball player Johannes Voigtmann is moving to Olimpia Milan. The Italians announced the signing of the 29-year-old for two seasons on Friday.
The native of Thuringia, who is currently playing with the DBB selection at the home European Championship, had last played for almost three years at CSKA Moscow. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, Voigtmann left the country and made it clear that he would not return until 2023, despite the contract.
“I’m happy to be at such a renowned club and in a team with big goals,” the professional was quoted as saying on the Italian club’s website.
Before the deal with Olimpia, Voigtmann received approval from Moscow, as reported by the Italian news agency Ansa, citing club sources. Milan is the reigning champion in Italy and a candidate for the title in the Euroleague – in the European premier class, Olimpia was in the semi-finals in 2021.
