Moritz and Franz Wagner helped the Orlando Magic win against the Phoenix Suns with a strong performance. For national team captain Dennis Schröder there was the next setback with the Raptors. Oklahoma City, the top team in the West, embarrassed itself at the hands of the Detroit Pistons.
The basketball world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner have found their way back to success with the Orlando Magic in the NBA. After two previous defeats, the team from Florida beat the Phoenix Suns around superstar Kevin Durant 113:98 on Sunday evening (January 28, 2024). Franz Wagner had eleven points, eight rebounds and seven assists. His brother Moritz contributed 16 points, twelve rebounds and one assist.
Orlando with Franz and Moritz Wagner on course for the playoffs
Devin Booker’s 44 points didn’t help the Suns either. In the final quarter, the team from Arizona collapsed completely: they only managed four points in the last ten minutes. Orlando, which has legitimate hopes of making the playoffs in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, remained strong in nerves.
Next bankruptcy for Raptors and Schröder
For national team captain Dennis Schröder and the Toronto Raptors, however, things are still not going well at all. The 125:126 at the Atlanta Hawks was the ninth defeat in the last ten games. Schröder remained quite inconspicuous with 14 points, three rebounds and six assists. There has recently been speculation in the US media that Schröder could possibly return to his former club, the Los Angeles Lakers, before the trade deadline (February 8th). The playoffs are far away for the Canadians in twelfth place.
Embarrassment for OKC against Detroit
The Detroit Pistons caused a surprise. The bottom team in the NBA, which had meanwhile suffered 28 defeats in a row, defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 120:104 thanks to Jalen Duren (21 points and rebounds each). The leader in the West had previously won five games in a row. For Detroit, the worst team in the league with 40 losses, it was the sixth win of the season.
