After missing out on qualifying for the FIBA Europe Cup, BG Göttingen started the new season of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) with a win.
The Lower Saxony prevailed on the 2nd matchday at ratiopharm Ulm with 93:84 (51:47). After the 80:87 at Bayern Munich it was the second defeat for the hosts. Mark Smith (28) and Harald Frey (18) were the BG’s best shooters, Devin Robinson (18) scored best on the Ulm side.
In the second game on Wednesday evening, EWE Baskets from Oldenburg celebrated their second success and moved up to second place in the table behind leaders Telekom Baskets Bonn. The ex-champion defeated medi Bayreuth after a hard fight 76:72 (44:41). The most successful throwers for the winner were Trey Drechsel (19) and Dewayne Russell (17), in Bayreuth Kalif Young scored 14 points.
