Basketball globe trotter Daniel Nelson settles down at Den Helder Suns

Daniel Nelson has started his first season in Den Helder. The 39-year-old coach worked in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Kosovo. “Growth, growth, growth. Better today than last week,” Nelson is clear about the goal this year.

After six years, Peter van Noord left Den Helder. The basketball club found a successor in Nelson. “I could read and write with Van Noord, but on the other hand it was also good to have someone new for the group,” says Den Helder player Nick Thran.

Cold fair

Nelson is described as a calm coach who prepares everything down to the last detail. Despite that good preparation, things go terribly wrong in the first match of the season. National champion Leiden visits and beats Den Helder by no less than 100-65. “Of course this hurts, but there is no point in giving up,” Nelson said.

On Sunday, Den Helder will play against Landstede Hammers in Zwolle.
