The FC Bayern Munich basketball players missed the surprise against Real Madrid. Coach Pablo Laso’s team clearly lost to the league leaders 71:92. The game was also marked by the late Franz Beckenbauer.
During the warm-up, the FC Bayern basketball players wore jerseys with the inscription “Beckenbauer” and his number five on the back. Before the tip-off, a minute’s silence was held in honor of Franz Beckenbauer under the eyes of Honorary President Uli Hoeneß and President Herbert Hainer. In the subsequent game, the current EuroLeague league leaders proved their class and gave FC Bayern no chance. The best thrower for the home team was Sylvain Francisco with 14 points. Vincent Poirier was the most accurate player for the Madrilenians with 23 points.
Lack of efficiency among FCB basketball players
The guests from the Spanish capital got off to a better start and led by nine points in the first quarter. After FCBB coach Pablo Laso took the time out, the Munich team got a better grip on the Madrilenians. Because we started the second period with an 18:24 deficit. It was then much more balanced. The home team appeared to be much improved, especially defensively. However, the current EuroLeague table leader proved to be accurate – especially from a distance. Coach Chus Mateo’s team recorded eight successful three-pointers by halftime and led 45:36 at the break. Above all, Bayern lacked efficiency.
Really increases the result
And it should stay that way in the third quarter. The Munich team created numerous chances, but only took advantage of a few of them. And so the guests took a nine-point lead (63:54) into the last ten minutes. There, Pablo Laso’s men came back to within five points after a beautiful three-point throw from Sylvain Francisco, only to concede five points in a row and go into the last five minutes with a ten-point deficit. The Munich team couldn’t get any further and in the end had to watch as the Spaniards increased the score to 92:71.
It was FCB’s eleventh defeat of this EuroLeague season. This means qualification for the playoffs is in danger. The Munich team are currently in 14th place in the table. There will already be an opportunity to make amends on Thursday when they visit Fenerbahce Istanbul.
